NEWSLETTER 16/2017 LEGISLATIVE UPDATE SEMINAR SICC 12 DECEMBER 2017 MILAN (ITALY)
TESTING IN THE COSMETIC SECTOR: EVALUATION OF THE PRESENCE OF IMPURITIES IN A PRODUCT AND ITS IMPACT ON SAFETY On the 12th December 2017 it took place in Milan (Italy) the Legislative Update Seminar promoted by SICC (Italian Society of Chemistry and Cosmetological Sciences), Association which Bio Basic Europe has recently joined. Dr. Claudio Angelinetta (Bio Basic Europe Technical Director) participated in the event as a speaker, examining in depth the theme of the evaluation of the presence of impurities in a cosmetic product, and its consequent impact on safety. The theme of impurities detectable in a cosmetic product is addressed in the Regulation (CE) n. 1223/2009, Art. 3 and Art. 17. Impurities may originate both from synthetic substances and plant or natural derivatives, and often they are chemical reaction residues, residual solvents, residual monomers, residual pesticides, heavy metals, nitrosamines, 1-4 dioxin (PEG), hydroquinone (tocopherol), Formaldehyde. For the protection of consumer safety, it is important that Safety Assessor, through a double regulatory/testing approach, properly controls the raw materials and assesses any possible risk. In case of presence of traces of prohibited substances, he must be able to provide evidence of their technical inevitability. In case of interest, do not hesitate to ask us a copy of the presentation and to arranging an in-depth meeting.
