NEWSLETTER 15/2017 35th NATIONAL CITOMETRY CONFERENCE PAESTUM - 38th NATIONAL CONGRESS OF THE ITALIAN PHARMACOLOGY SOCIETY RIMINI

We mentioned in the newsletter 10/2017 the publication of the poster “Evaluating skin sensiting potential of chemicals with a simple and rapid in vitro method” during the 53th Congress of the “European Societies of Toxicology” held in Bratislava, written by Buzzella A.1, Mori M. 3, Vicini R. 3, Angelinetta C. 3, Mazzini G. 2, Pastoris O. 1. 1= Department of Biology and Biotechnology University of Pavia (Italy); 2= Institute of Molecular Genetics, CNR, Pavia (Italy); 3= Bio Basic Europe S.r.l., Milan (Italy). To view the abstract of the poster, please go to the “publication” section of the website: http://biobasiceurope.it/eng/pubblicazioni.asp * * * We are glad to inform you that on the occasion of the 35th National Cytometry Conference (Session of Allergology), which was held in the wonderful setting of Paestum on the last 06 of October, Dr. Claudio Angelinetta (Bio Basic Europe Technical Director) deepened the poster theme through oral communication, focusing on the instrumental method of the citofluorimeter. He thus presented to the public the work “An alternative cytofluorimetric method for evaluating in vitro skin sensitization” (Authors: Buzzella A., Mazzini G., Vicini R., Angelinetta C., Pastoris O.). The purpose of the study was to find an alternative cytometric parameter, more sensitive than fluorescence, in order to assess the sensitizing potential of different chemicals. The results showed that the method based on the analysis of forward scatter and side scatter parameters (FSC/SSC) can be used as a simple, inexpensive and sensitive, in vitro skin sensitization test for the identification of the potential sensitization of chemical compounds. Please note that the abstract of this study will be published in “Cytometry B” magazine's web site. * * * During the SIF conference (38th National Congress of the Italian Pharmacology Society - Session of Pharmacovigilance), which was held in Rimini from the 25 to the 28 of October 2017, Dr. Alice Buzzella (Department of Biology and Biotechnology of Pavia University and researcher at Bio Basic Europe) presented the poster “An alternative method for evaluating skin sensitizing potential of chemicals using forward scatter” (Authors: Buzzella A., Mazzini G., Vicini R., Angelinetta C., Balestra B., Pastoris O.). The purpose of the work was to develop an in vitro alternative test that would make it possible to identify the sensitizing potential of chemical compounds. The research allowed detecting a sensitive cytometric parameter in the forward scatter signal in order to allow the discrimination between sensitizing and non-sensitizing substances. Bio Basic Europe, in collaboration with the University of Pavia, confirms its commitment towards the research oriented to the development of in vitro protocols, alternative to animal testing.
